About

Hi, I'm Phil Niehus

This is where I share thoughts and takeaways of my personal projects, mainly about programming. I mostly do this to sum up some of the things I learned from my projects for myself, but I also hope that it might be interesting to other people.

Ok, but who are you, really?

I have always been interested in technology and started to get more interested in computers when I was 13 or 14 years old and put together a pc from old parts with a friend of mine. We didn't have a case and used a screwdriver to short the pins for the power switch on the mainboard. Since then, I started learning more and more about computers and got into programming Java when I was 16. I have subsequently tried and used many different programming languages. I now mainly use Python for my projects.

I also care a lot about privacy and internet freedom and have attended multiple protests against the EU's copyright directive (Article 15, 16 & 17, previously known as article 11, 12 and 13). I actually care so much about privacy that I don't publicly share any pictures with my face in it. That might sound a bit paranoid, but there have already been cases in which peoples pictures were misused, like in the case of Clearview AI.

Apart from technology, I also enjoy photography, music and mountain biking.
